Ismaning, 2 December 2010 – An outstanding production of an outstanding evening of boxing: PLAZAMEDIA will produce the Universum boxing evening on Saturday 4 December at the Sport and Congress Hall in Schwerin, Germany, culminating in the European Heavyweight title fight between Alexander Dimitrenko and Albert Sosnowski. The full-service provider for TV and new media will give the event its customary innovative and high-quality treatment in 3D, HD and SD.
As part of a collaboration between SPORT1 and Deutsche Telekom AG as well as HD+, PLAZAMEDIA will showcase the premium fight night in 3D/HD, with the event airing on LIGA total! (channel 311) on Deutsche Telekom’s TV platform Entertain. On HD+, SES ASTRA’s technical platform for the transmission and reception of TV programmes in HD quality, the 3D event will be broadcast on SPORT1 HD.
PLAZAMEDIA will also produce the coverage – from Schwerin, Germany – for Polish pay-TV operator “n”, the HD-DTH platform of the TVN group, in 3D and HD. With the 3D broadcast of the event on nShow 3D, the Polish platform will launch Poland’s first regular 3D channel. “n” will also show the fights in high definition on its HD sports channel nSport.
For sports channel SPORT1 and pay-TV channel SPORT1+, PLAZAMEDIA will produce the action simultaneously in SD or HD. The whole Universum fight night will be broadcast live from 9.00 p.m.
20 cameras with innovative 3D camera systems in action
PLAZAMEDIA will produce the evening of boxing at the highest technical level, capturing the action from a variety of perspectives with a total of 20 cameras, including specialised camera systems such as a 3D sportscam, a 3D steadycam and two 3D ultra-light cranes right on the ring. In addition, two main cameras will provide the 3D overview, so that none of the action escapes the viewers at home. As well as the 3D camera technology in the arena, PLAZAMEDIA will use two handheld cameras, two goalcams for pictures from the changing rooms, two studio cameras and two further main cameras. A crew of 60 will be deployed to the boxing arena in Schwerin to tackle this elaborate production. PLAZAMEDIA will produce the programmes in parallel in 3D and 2D, with signal distribution via optical fibre 1080i/50 side-by-side as well as via satellite. The 3D and 2D transmissions will be implemented independently of each other. In addition to this, the unilateral part for “n” will be produced with extra cameras, different positions and a separate transmission circuit.
Editing the live broadcast will be the responsibility of SPORT1, which, like PLAZAMEDIA, is part of the Constantin Medien group.
Florian Nowosad, CEO of PLAZAMEDIA, says: “With the complex, high-tech production of this boxing evening in 3D and HD, PLAZAMEDIA is confirming its innovative strength with regard to implementing new production technologies. Having produced the opening match of the Ice Hockey World Championships in 3D this year, this is a further step towards the establishment of 3D in sports broadcasting. Next year we will continue our intensive pursuit of 3D in sports production and present further highlights in production technology.”
