Ismaning, 10 June 2010 – From 11 June until the final on 14 July, PLAZAMEDIA will produce the worldwide mobile content from the 64 matches of the FIFA Football World Cup South Africa 2010 [TM] in 11 languages, as well as comprehensive online streaming content for several clients.

The sports-TV producer based in Ismaning near Munich will stream all 64 matches live for Deutsche Telekom’s mobile terminals – in particular the content for the iPhone – and will produce for this distribution channel a 24-hour channel with World Cup highlights and news for Deutsche Telekom.

For pay-TV broadcaster Sky, PLAZAMEDIA’s New Media team will create live streamings of all World Cup matches for the website www.sky.de and will also prepare daily highlights of the studio shows and the matches for the online platform.

As well as all this, at the International Broadcasting Center in Johannesburg, a 51-strong team from PLAZAMEDIA will be on duty for the host broadcaster HBS. The team will produce all World Cup content, which will be offered worldwide in 11 languages by mobile providers for viewing on mobile phones.

Florian Nowosad, CEO of PLAZAMEDIA, says: “In view of the significance of the Football World Cup in South Africa as the sporting event of the year, the fact that PLAZAMEDIA has been commissioned with the complete creation of mobile content, as well as extensive streaming offerings, underlines the capability of our company and the leading role PLAZAMEDIA plays as an innovative production provider.”

World Cup studios for Sky and SPORT1

At the National Broadcast Center (NBC) in Ismaning, PLAZAMEDIA will produce around 300 hours of live reporting: On 31 days, Sky will report daily in HD from the World Cup studio and will be using PLAZAMEDIA’s fully networked EVS and Avid infrastructure for the production.

During the World Cup a complete non-linear workflow is guaranteed in two shifts, with altogether around 100 staff working at the NBC every day over the four weeks.

For the International Broadcasting Center in Johannesburg, PLAZAMEDIA will put its entire production personnel at the disposal of Sky, from CCR operators to Avid and highlight cutters. There is also an HD studio on the spot in South Africa, which will receive instructions directly from the PLAZAMEDIA production control room some 8,500 km away in Germany.
