This year, the awards will be held for the eighth time, recognising projects from all over the world that conserve and protect our resources or that employ renewable energy. They are awarded annually in a television gala in the categories Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Youth.
The participants of the "Energy Globe World Awards" come from 109 countries.
Most of them will accept the award in person in Brussels. Mikhail Gorbachev will attend the awards as a guest of honour and will be awarded the "Energy Globe World Award" for his lifework. The projects are nominated by an international jury of experts chaired by the former Indian Minister of the Environment, Member of Congress Maneka Gandhi.
The highlights of the grand gala finale will be musical performances of Italian rocker Zucchero, the Canadian singer Alanis Morissette and soul lady Dionne Warwick. Warwick will also present the prize to America in the category Fire.
